What to expect in the first session
What to expect in the first session
Your first session is really about getting to know each other. There’s no pressure to have everything figured out or to share more than you feel ready for.
We’ll spend time talking about what brought you in, what’s been feeling challenging, and what you’re hoping to get out of this process. I may ask some gentle questions about your background, current supports, and what day-to-day life has been looking like, but we’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you.
This is also a space for you to ask questions, get a sense of how I work, and see if it feels like a good fit. Think of it less like a formal intake and more like the beginning of an ongoing conversation we’ll build together.
By the end of the session, we’ll usually have a general sense of what feels most important to focus on and what the next steps might look like. If it feels helpful, I may also suggest small things to work on or try between sessions to help support your progress and keep things moving in a supportive, manageable way.
Most importantly, my goal is for you to leave feeling heard, supported, and a little more grounded than when you came in.
How to Get Started
Intake Process
Getting started is simple. To begin, click the New Client Inquiry button above and complete the form. Once submitted, we will reach out to schedule a brief phone consultation.
During this call, we’ll talk about what brings you in, the areas you’d like support with, and what you’re hoping to gain from the process. I’ll also share more about my approach and answer any questions you may have. This consultation typically lasts about 5–15 minutes.
If we decide to move forward together, intake paperwork will be sent to you electronically. If you plan to use insurance, you will also receive information through Headway, which manages insurance-related items such as copays, deductibles, and coverage questions.
All intake forms and insurance information must be completed prior to your first session so we can begin the process smoothly and focus fully on your care.
Insurance vs. Private Pay
I understand that navigating payment options can sometimes feel overwhelming, and I aim to make the process as clear and straightforward as possible.
If you plan to use insurance, claims and benefits will be managed through Headway. Headway handles insurance verification, copays, deductibles, and billing-related questions directly.
Please note that using insurance may require a mental health diagnosis and can place certain limitations on treatment, documentation, or session frequency depending on your plan and coverage.
Private pay allows for greater flexibility and privacy in your care, without involving insurance companies or requiring a diagnosis to be shared. Some clients prefer this option for the added confidentiality and freedom in how sessions are approached.
Payment is due at the time of service unless otherwise discussed.
If you have questions about which option may be the best fit for you, we can discuss this further during the consultation process.
